DESCRIPTION:
The superb mountain areas of Snowdonia provide fantastic opportunities for individuals to extend their scrambling skills. On this 2 or 5 day course we will tackle some of the area’s more classic routes.
This course runs continuously between April and September 2008 and will take you from hill walking to scrambling, gently introducing you to steeper and rocky terrain and exploring Snowdonia’s classic scrambles.
The course is designed to move you from easy scrambling to more demanding scrambles whilst learning about route finding, simple rope work, equipment selection, navigation and the interpretation of mountain weather.
Day 1
Introduction to personal equipment. The course outline. Basic rope work using local rock outcrops.
Day 2
More rope work. Simple direct belays, anchor selection, efficient rope management, confidence roping and navigation, interpretation of mountain weather.
Day 3
Introduction to basic equipment. Placing runners on the more harder scrambles. Route finding when descending.
Day 4
Principles of movement over the more exposed ground. Route finding. Guide book interpretation. Navigation.
Day 5
A options day. Opportunity for a classic mountain scramble or more rope work. Finally, the course debrief.
NOTES:
Due to many variables, this programme has to be a flexible one. Having said that, we will always use the weather to it’s best advantage for the benefit of the course and to provide all relevant and appropriate training.
