DESCRIPTION:
This course is an introduction to Sea Kayaking for those who already have a basic grasp of kayak handling. If you wish to improve kayak handling skills and increase both your practical and theoretical knowledge, join us around the rugged, scenic coast of Anglesey and the Llyn Peninsula where you’ll experience the infamous tide races and visit some of the many remote islands dotted around the North Wales coastline.

The objective will be to build on your knowledge of sea and kayak handling techniques in both sheltered and rough water, as well as covering the complexities of coastal navigation, group control, sea safety, and rescue skills. Additionally, we’ll spend time on chart work, tidal planning, weather forecasting, and planning a sea trip. Weather permitting we will include a two day expedition. With a ratio of one instructor to 5 students, we’ll leave you equipped with all the skills you will need, enabling you to plan your own future sea kayak adventures.

ITINERY:
Day 1
Introduction to Sea kayaks. Basic strokes. Capsize drills and handling techniques.

Day 2
A Coastal journey, examining group control, more stroke work in sheltered & rough water, and tidal currents.

Day 3
Another Coastal journey, this time examining coastal navigation, chart work, simple sea safety, and rescue skills.

Day 4
Planning a overnight expedition with the emphasis on weather forecasting, packing & loading kayaks, and reviewing basic strokes.

Day 5
Coastal paddling examining tidal currents and coastal navigation. Return from expedition.

NOTES:
This course has to be flexible. If the weather or conditions on the sea are bad we will maximise the relevant training wherever possible.
